I spend a significant amount of time working with text, and the system clipboard’s single entry can quickly become a bottleneck, especially when I’m dealing with multiple chunks of text. So it made sense, then, that the touchscreen that exists beyond the boundaries of my monitor(s), should offer multiple paste entries. So about six? As new content is copied in, the previous entries are shifted back by one. Tapping any of the entries immediately pastes its content at the cursor.
Of course, there are already tools out there that do this with keyboard shortcuts — but I find that even more laborious, because then I have to remember which content is where. This way, I have a highly visual representation of my clipboard, at my fingertips. It greatly reduces the mental load inherent to the textual kung fu I practice on a daily basis. Combined with the additional information listed below, I have a clever HUD that gets used for more than a passing distraction. That it all sits atop a gentle, constantly shifting, randomly generated gradient, ensures that it looks rather handsome all the while. Other information includes: Chicago / Bern weather; the temperature of the river Aare; how many files have changed since the last commit courtesy of git; das Wort des Tages (German word of the day) courtesy of Duden; and the amount of sunlight afforded by way of the day’s sunrise and sunset times.
